Vagina Monologues author and founder of the One Billion Rising movement Eve Ensler is in the country to promote the fight against gender based violence.

The Tony Award winning playwright, performer and activist is the author of The Vagina Monologues play which has been translated into over 48 languages and performed in over 140 countries in the world.

Speaking at a press conference organized by One billion Rising Zimbabwe on Thursday, Eve Ensler said she is enchanted to be in the country to forward the agenda for women to continue to rise against domestic violence.

“I am pleased to be part of Zimbabwe One billion Rising campaign.

“Women are so powerful that if they are allowed to be free in their bodies, the world will definitely change,” she said.

Eve Ensler will hold a number of workshops in the country under one billion risings to enforce issues to do with gender based violence.

Global Co-ordinator and Campaign Strategist for One billion Rising Zimbabwe Nyasha Sengayi said she is delighted to have a world renowned play author into the country to further their agendas against domestic violence.

One Billion Rising was galvanized by over one billion women and men on a global day of action towards ending violence against women and girls in February 2013.
