The National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA) Youth Forum has called on the Constitutional Court to ensure that Zimbabwe has a legitimate government in its ruling on the MDC Alliance Court application seeking to nullify the presidential election outcome of the July 30 elections.

Addressing a press conference at the Media Centre in Harare today, NERA Youth Forum Chairperson Tawanda Kalonga said they acknowledged that all the principals of the 22 political parties were fighting for electoral reforms.

“We as the members of NERA Youth Forum are conscious of our role as a generation affected by electoral theft. We are worried by the deliberate intentional errors by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ibn its administration of the electoral process and collation of results and consequently, ZEC has failed to operate as an independent entity as ascribed by the constitution,

“We do hereby call upon the Constitutional Court to ensure that we have a government which is legitimate. We plead with the court to ensure the alleged infringements on fundamental human rights by ZEC are reversed.” he said.

Lovemore Chinoputsa who is NERA Youth Forum Organiz there was confidence that the Court was going to deal with MDC Alliance’s appeal.

“As the Constitutional Court sits to hear the MDC Alliance petition tomorrow, we have confidence that our judiciary will be able to deal with the matter in the best manner possible, Chinoputsa said, adding that the NERA Youth wing’s options are not limited to tomorrow’s Constitutional Court outcome.

“We respect the constitutional court but we reserve the right to liberate ourselves by other means. We will not accept a situation where our future is going to be stolen because there are people who believe that they are the ones who are supposed to be ruling this country forever,” Chinoputsa said.

Chinoputsa said the MDC Alliance candidate, Nelson Chamisa won the July 30 Presidential elections. He appealed to international and regional bodies to make sure that the military does not continue to meddle in Zimbabwe’s civilian politics.

“The continued enjoyment of peace in this country rests on the courts and international bodies. We are appealing to the Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc), the African Union and the broader international community to come to the rescue of the people of Zimbabwe who overwhelmingly voted for Chamisa’s election victory,” he said.

Focusing on the Constitutional Court hearing tomorrow, Kalonga said NERA will mobilize people to defend their vote through protests in the event that Chamisa is not going to be declared the President of Zimbabwe.
