ZINASU orders government to pay lecturers.

The Zimbabwe National Student Union (ZINASU) has ordered the government to pay out academic and non-academic staff their outstanding salaries so that they can resume their duties.

In a statement which was read by ZINASU President Mr. Gilbert Mutubuki, he said his union was totally against the irresponsibility of the government of Zimbabwe citing that the mayhem at the UZ campus had started after Oppah Muchinguru had assumed office as Minister of Higher and tertiary education.

ZINASU president said, “ZINASU strongly castigate the manner in which the state and the government of Zimbabwe abuses academic and non academic staff at state institutions as it only crossed slavery but also short-changed the students who are forced to pay extremely unrealistic tuition fees”.

Meanwhile the ZINASU president has urged all students from the affected universities not to go back to campus until government settle salary arrears of lecturers.

Most lecturers from the universities around the country which include University of Zimbabwe (UZ), Bindura, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) downed their tools demanding their outstanding salaries being owed by the government since November 2014.

The university lecturers has been on strike for a week now with the UZ heavily manned by riot police who were dispersing students demonstrating against the government citing that their right to education was being infringed.

The UZ vice-chancellor professor Livy Nyagura has already summoned all students to attend classes notwithstanding the grievances of lectures.
