Rutendo Bamu and Success Majaramhepo:
Many Zimbabweans are in the dark about when the late former President Robert Mubabe would be buried more than ten days after he died in Singapore where he had been seeking medical attention since April.
The government had initially penciled Mugabe’s burial for last Sunday at the National Heroes acres, but the plan was scuttled by the family that insisted the late founding father of Zimbabwe should be buried at his rural home in Zvimba. However, a last minute compromise after a lot of cajoling, threats and sweetners the parties finally agreed he would be buried at a special mausoleum to be constructed at Heroes Acre.
Information permanent secretary Nick Mangwana said Saturday State funeral was the last event to mark the official mourning of Mugabe.
“Today is the last day for Mugabe funeral programme. After tomorrow, we are back to work as usual. The government has done a lot and it is proud of what it has done on Mugabe’s funeral,” said Mangwana.
At the National Sports Stadium full military honours were given to Mugabe and the military fired a 21-gun salute, before President Emmerson Mnangagwa released 95 doves representing each of Mugabe’s years on earth.
