Zimbabwe cricket team will fly tomorrow for the ICC world Cup that is starting on the 14th of February in New Zealand and Australia.
The Zimbabwe cricket team lost all of the latest matches they played in Bangladesh recently. Despite the poor performance they showcased in Bangladesh, the team captain Prosper Utseya is positive that the team will bring the trophy home.
“I am positive that we are going to bring the trophy home, we lost our matches in Bangladesh but we are going to Aus and the environment is positive for our bowlers.” said the veteran player.
His sentiments were also echoed by the team coach Dav Whatmore.
“I am confident that my boys will raise the flag of Zimbabwe high. The morale is high in the camp and our practice matches will provide us with the much needed match fitness” said the Australian born coach.
But some Zimbabweans whom we interviewed seem not to have confidence in the team.
“I can’t expect anything from the team because their performances of late have been questionable. They lost all their matches in Bangladesh but I wish the boys good luck” said Samantha Chirenda
The coach welcomed the appointment of Andy Waller and Walter Chawaguta as batting and fielding coaches.
Zimbabwe is in Pool B with South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, Ireland and United Arab Emirates.
However for one fan, if Zimbabwe is to perform badly in their group they must at least beat South Africa.
“Our request to the team is that it is better to lose all matches but we must win against South Africa” Said Blessing Chadanyika.
Meanwhile South Africa lost to West Indies in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, which might be a wakeup call to the South Africans who seem to be complacent ahead of the World Cup.
