Report By Wilis Moyo

The National Democratic Working Group (NDWG) has condemned the threats made by ZANU PF functionaries against its Chairman and Facilitator, Hon. Advocate Job Sikhala, following his address at the UN 16th Human Rights and Democracy Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

In a statement, the NDWG expressed solidarity with Sikhala’s remarks, which highlighted the human rights and democracy crisis in Zimbabwe. The group dismissed the ZANU PF regime’s attacks on Sikhala as an attempt to silence him and intimidate others from speaking out against the government’s abuses.

The NDWG listed several examples of human rights violations, abductions, and murders committed by the ZANU PF regime, including the bombing of the Daily News, the abduction of Jestina Mukoko, and the murder of Moreblessing Ali.

The group defended Sikhala’s right to free speech and criticized the ZANU PF regime’s attempts to limit democratic freedoms through repressive laws and tactics. They also expressed concern over the treatment of prisoners in Zimbabwe’s appalling prison conditions.

The NDWG called on all Zimbabweans to assert their rights and refuse to be manipulated or intimidated into silence, and reiterated that Zimbabwe will be free, and the people shall govern peacefully and democratically.

FAKE X ACCOUNT CONDEMNED

The NDWG also condemned the creation of a fake X account in Sikhala’s name, which they say is being used to justify his arrest. They called on all Zimbabweans to report the bogus account to the X management for erasure. There is, however, an X account that has been giving real time updates of Sikhala’s activities and engagements during his trip to Geneva for the human rights and democracy summit.

The statement was read out by Dr. Wurayayi Zembe, NDWG’s acting chairman and head of political affairs department at a press conference, Tuesday in Harare.
