By Florence Muzambani

Harare – On July 11, stakeholders gathered to commemorate the 8th Africa Anti-Corruption Day, emphasizing the crucial role of whistleblowers in the fight against corruption.

“There can be no investigation of corruption and the fight against corruption without whistleblowers,” said Prosecutor General Justice Loice Mutanda Moyo. “People must be encouraged to report corruption without fear. Whistleblowers are the guardians of institutions, the champions of transparency, and the architects of a brighter future for Zimbabwe.”

The event, themed “Effective Whistleblowers Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight against Corruption,” brought together Transparency International, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, among other stakeholders. They urged the government to prioritize legislation protecting whistleblowers and ensuring their safety.

The commemoration featured a march against corruption, where participants held anti-corruption placards. Stakeholders encouraged the formulation of legislation to protect whistleblowers and ensure their safety.

The call for effective whistleblower protection mechanisms resonated throughout the event, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding those who report corruption.
