Zimbabwe witnessed its first ever Tourism Policy launch at Celebration
Centre in Harare yesterday.
The launch was graced by the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe,
Joyce Mujuru and the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Walter Mzembi.
The guest of Honor Vice President Mujuru announced that the Zimbabwe
Tourism Policy will be a compass to guide and lay a foundation for a
sustainable economy.
She also emphasised that Zimbabwe hosts abundant flora and fauna which is
a vast opportunity for tourism growth if well branded and effectively
implemented.
The Minister of Tourism Walter Mzembi expressed optimism that by year 2020
Zimbabwe shall post 5 billion dollars in the tourism sector.
He also encouraged people involved in the tourism sector to challenge their
thinking and upgrade the dialogue with South Africa which is responsible
for the 70% of tourists that come to Zimbabwe.
The tourism policy seeks to redefine the cultural tourism of Zimbabwe by
declaring the whole country a tourism zone.
Pastor Tom Deuschle of the Celebration Centre also received certification
of his church’s declaration as a tourism zone from the Mzembi’s ministry.
