VENDORS SET TO MEET HARARE MAYOR

The over 50 trained Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) Informal Sector Corruption Tracking Teams are set to meet with the Mayor of Harare, Cllr Ben Manyenyeni, next week. The objective of the meeting is to among other things update the Mayor and his team on the gains made by the teams thus far and in the process develop an inclusive and shared informal sector corruption monitoring mechanism.  The meeting with Mayor is expected to be attended by other informal sector organizations that share the same concern as VISET over the increase in the number of cases of corruption not only in Harare but the country as a whole. The VISET teams will also take the opportunity to report to the Mayor and his team what they have managed to detect, document, report and resist since their introduction.

Two weeks ago, VISET conducted an informal sector corruption tracking teams training workshop in Harare a response to growing concerns from vendors in particular and the citizenry in general, over the rampant corruption in the informal sector which has not only eroded the vendors meager earnings, but also robbed the Local authorities of the much needed revenue. It is part of VISET’s project aimed at curbing corruption in the informal sector, which will soon be rolled out to all the major cities, towns and growth points in the country.
