US Ambassador Tremont Assures Investment Support for Zimbabwe

By Chantay Ruswa

Newly accredited United States, Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Pamela M. Tremont, has assured cooperation with Zimbabwe in ensuring transparency and accountability in efforts to attract more U.S. investors.

Speaking during a recent press conference, Ambassador Tremont, emphasized the importance of transparency in fostering a conducive business environment and promoting economic growth.

This development comes as a positive sign for Zimbabwe’s efforts to revive its economy and attract foreign investment.

“That was the big part of the conversation we had with President Mnangagwa, we both want better commercial ties, we as the United States we have a lot to offer in terms of transparency, sustainability respect for environment, respect for labour rights and I believe that is why the Zimbabwean government has asked us to bring more US investors to Zimbabwe,” said Ambassador Pamela Tremont.

The ambassador emphasised on collaborating with the government to improve the investment climate and make Zimbabwe more attractive.

She also said the US wants Zimbabwe to be a self-reliant and self-sufficient country that can stand on its two feet so that they can work together in the world’s problems.

“I look forward to talk with the government on how we can improve the investment climate here to make a more attractive place not just for US investors but for other companies around the world, it benefits all of us when we are all more prosperous,” said the US Ambassador.

To show interest of the US helping Zimbabwe economically the United States Agency for International Development announced an additional $39 million in drought response assistance to the people of Zimbabwe as the lean season approaches.

The government of Zimbabwe and United Nations estimated that six million people will require food assistance during the coming November-March lean season.

Through this support from USAID humanitarian partners will provide over 500,000 people with food assistance during the upcoming lean season; distribute agriculture supplies and livestock to households whose livelihoods have been affected by the drought; and improve access to water for agriculture and consumption.

USAID has provided nearly $62 million to respond to humanitarian needs in Zimbabwe since the beginning of Fiscal year 2024.

“We will pursue this mutual interest while respecting Zimbabwe’s sovereignty” said the US Ambassador Pamela.
