People in ward 24 Chipinge were left shell-shocked after an uncle killed his nephew over a misunderstanding at a beer hall.
Watson Mashakwari (29) was beaten by his uncle Zafania Mashakwari on their way from Mabhiza Business Centre where they had gone for drinks. No one can tell what exactly transpired but it is reported that the two went for a drink at a nearby shopping centre and on their way, uncle used a log to beat nephew resulting in deep cuts in the head.
After the incident, Watson proceeded to his house and only started feeling the pain around midnight. He made a telephone call to his father to tell him that he had a headache which had been caused by beating from his uncle. He was then rushed to St Peter’s mission hospital where he (Watson) was admitted. The doctor diagnosed that the wound was very deep and there were blood clots.
The following day Watson died and he was laid to rest on Thursday in Bitcon area under headman Machona. Speaking at the burial, the Headman Mr Karakadzai Machona said, “he was disheartened by such acts whenever people have disagreements must find better ways of settling them, killing will never be a solution. Only animals are subject to be killed but for a purpose not people”
The matter was reported to Chisumbanje Police Station and the culprit tried to escape and was arrested near Chiredzi on his way to South Africa. He was taken to court where he was remanded in custody.
