27 March 2018 – Transform Zimbabwe (TZ) has threatened to leave the MDC Alliance following the claims which were made that the party was being marginalised by the MDC – T party.
Addressing journalists today at a press conference, Jacob Ngarivhume, TZ President said the main issue raised by the delegates at the Congress was the total absence of TZ seats in the three Matabeleland Provinces.
“Among the raised concerns was the general disregard for the letter and spirit of the Alliance agreement by MDC –T through appointing candidates in constituencies earmarked for Alliance partners” ,said Ngarivhume.
He added that the Alliance institutionalization process has not progressed as agreed and there was a general sentiment that the Alliance was now heavily reliant on MDC-T party infrastructure.
“Congress delegates felt aggrieved at the marginalisation of the party in the allocation of urban parliamentary and council seats”.
“Transform Zimbabwe affirms its commitment to the ideals of the Alliance and wishes to enter the 2018 election as part of the Alliance; however that should not be mistaken for a lack of capacity to go it alone in the undesirable situation where the Alliance fails to hold for one reason or another”.
According to Ngarivhume, the congress mandated him to table some requests to the Alliance Principal Forum such as concluding all outstanding matters urgently.
“MDC-T must nullify all the primary election results for the constituencies allocated to TZ and make an unequivocal undertaking that there will be no MDC-T candidates contesting in seats allocated to Alliance partners”, said Ngarivhume.
Meanwhile, Ngarivhume noted that TZ leaders will carry out massive voter education at grassroots to ensure that they debunk misinformation on BVR as peddled by ZANU PF structures.
