A South African citizen Cuan Reed Govender (25) was on Monday fined USD300 by the Harare Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of ammunition.
Govender was arrested at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Friday, March 1, 2024 after security personnel detected live rounds of ammunition during a routine baggage scan.
The airport security promptly apprehended Govender and conducted a thorough search of his luggage and found five live rounds of ammunition.
The accused had intended to board an Airlink flight destined for South Africa.
Last week on Friday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa was forced to abort a trip to the resort town of Victoria Falls due to a bomb scare.
The Presidential spokesperson later issued a statement saying Mnangagwa made a u-turn after FastJet alerted them of an email from one John Doe claiming “credible bomb/firearm threat” targeting Zimbabwean airports.
