Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Partners with Homelink to Increase Access to Local Currency

By Wilis Moyo
Harare, Zimbabwe – The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has announced a partnership with Homelink to expand access to the local currency, ZiG, across the country. The move aims to ensure sufficient ZiG circulation in the economy to support normal business transactions and economic activity.
Starting from Monday, June 10, 2024, individuals and businesses can swipe their local currency debit or credit cards at any Homelink branch to access ZiG cash in small denominations (ZiG1, ZiG2, ZiG5, and ZiG10). Additionally, Homelink branches will exchange foreign currency cash for ZiG cash at the ruling interbank exchange rate.
The RBZ has urged all stakeholders, including commuters, public transport operators, retailers, informal traders, and vendor associations, to take advantage of this arrangement to access ZiG cash. The partnership with Homelink is part of the RBZ’s broader initiatives to ensure the availability of adequate ZiG cash in the economy.
The central bank plans to expand this initiative to other bureaux de change in the future. A list of participating Homelink branches is available for easy access.
This move is expected to boost economic activity and facilitate transactions across the country. The RBZ said it remains committed to ensuring the stability and accessibility of the local currency.
