The newly formed Zimbabwe People Front Party (ZPFP) led by little known Owen Kuchata has declared that they will not rest while the Mugabe led ZANU PF government sleeps on duty, this will be one of the demonstrations that have characterized the Mugabe government.
Opposition parties have since last year declared that they will be staging demonstrations to give pressure on the Mugabe government, however most of these have been poorly attended and marked by police brutality, none been a success.
The Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) early this month held demonstrations that were ruthlessly crushed by the government in the beginning of this month with their leaders getting arrested but ZPFP said they were not intimidated and will conduct their demonstrations starting tomorrow.
Kuchata’s party which was launched last year is among over 40 registered political parties in Zimbabwe said he was the Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe People’s Army (ZIPA).
“It is true my party ZPFP will under our military wing ZIPA,be having demonstrations throughout the country. We won’t need police clearance because it’s not even necessary” said Kuchata.
In a statement released this afternoon Kuchata declared that his party would by tomorrow initiate nationwide demos that will eventually lead to Mugabe stepping down and pave way for a new government.
“People are losing jobs- the ZANU PF dictators should just be removed and the country needs an engine overhaul. Not to recycle those old and senile who are out of touch with reality have no ideas.” he said.
The new party also highlighted the problems being faced by Zimbabwe the country saying the Mugabe government had lost its mandate.
“The main duty of government should be to maintain as much freedom as possible in a civilized society not to demolition of people’s property, corruption kidnapping people, failure to pay worker’s salaries and creating unemployment” read part of the statement.
Kuchata said as a party they were concerned about the state of the country and would not do this for the security forces but for the good of Zimbabweans.
“ We are today as Zimbabweans our mission is not for demonstrating against national defence forces or any state security or individual because we are in the same boat of suffering, unless anyone who turns against us will turn against them” he said.
He said the only solution to Zimbabwe’s crisis was being militant and that as a party they would ‘sacrifice to win freedom’.
“For my own part I have made my choice that I will not leave Zimbabwe nor will surrender only through hardship, sacrifice and militants can freedom be won. The struggle is my life, I will fight for the freedom needed until the end of my life” he said.
A Harare based political commentator said while it was good to demonstrate the party needs to be cleared by the police saying what they were doing was ‘suicidal”.
“I am only concerned about the issue that they are not getting a police clearance, in essence that is inviting trouble considering some demonstration that had police clearance but had people brutalized. Whatever they want to achieve is suicidal considering the state of affairs in Zimbabwe” said the analyst who preferred anonymity.
Efforts to get a comments from the ZANU PF National Spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.
