POLITICIANS ARE CHIEF CULPRITS IN NEGATING ROAD DEVELOPMENT-CHECHECHE RESIDENTS

By Sentinel Reporter

Checheche residents bemoaned  over the  continued destruction of Tanganda-Chiredzi Road by haulage trucks and this   poses great danger to people’s health due to dust raised by these haulage trucks in transit from South Africa to Mutare and Mozambique.

Countless efforts have been made by the community to engage political leaders to rectify this challenge, but to no avail.

Speaking at a VOA-Media Centre organised meeting at Checheche Town Hall on the 8th of November 2018, Wishes Hama Councilor for Ward 24, confirmed that the road is being destroyed by haulage trucks from South Africa to Mutare and Mozambique.

Trucks with heavy weights have been barred from using Burchnough Bridge Road so they have resorted to Tanganda–Chiredzi Road.

“The road has become so dusty and Checheche residents are at risk of developing respiratory diseases. Children who use this road are always coughing and even adults who travel to and from Tanganda” added Councilor Hama.

Infuriated Gabriel Sithole said, “We will employ extreme measures to make the government and Billy understand that this road needs to be repaired. We will mobilize ourselves and close this road.”

Billy Rautenberg is the owner of Green Fuels (Private) Limited, a company in Chisumbanje that frequently transports heavy loads of sugarcane and ethanol using the Tanganda- Chiredzi Road.
