Inside Harare’s Mupedzanhamo open flea market in Mbare as piles of second hand clothes are stacked for sell, uncollected garbage lies creating a seemingly health catastrophe in the midst of the cholera pandemic.
Mupedzanhamo market was recently opened by the Harare City Council after years of closure due to political conflicts. Many anticipated that the local authority was going to use the time the market place was closed to spruce it up and ensure that by the time it is opened to the public proper water and sanitation health facilities would have been put in place, but this was not the case.
