Parents of children attending Sunningdale 1 Primary School yesterday demonstrated demanding the the firing of the school headmaster, Never Zviripi, after he sent away their children from school to collect
In an interview with ZimSentinel, parents called for the dismissal of Zviripi, who they accused of squandering school resources in connivance with the SDA chairperson as they make decisions without consulting other parents.
Parents said they were against the dismissal of their children as it was of violation of the right to education. They also argued the $35 demanded by the school was illegal as they pay building fund, which must cater for such issues.
“Zviripi must go because he can’t sent our children home to collect $35 to pay 38 roofing sheets which were stolen by his guards. Please help Sunningdale I Primary students, they are being robbed by the headmaster and SDA Chairperson Mr Homai , who are sending them back to collect $35 to replace the stolen,” a Sunningdale 1 primary parent, Winnie Zava said.
The parents said they were disheartened by the theft cases which were continuously taking place while the school administration was not taking any action against the security.
According to parents, this was not the first time theft has been reported at the school. Previously, grade 1 calculator, Jojo tank, 25 bond paper rims were stolen by the guards, but the administration remained silent.
“Sunningdale 1 Primary, we need clarity and transparency about all these missing assets. This is not the first time to hear about these thefts. Last time it was grade 1 calculator, the jojo tank, 21 bond paper reams of grade 7 red and 4 reams from grade 3 red. After that incident, it was discovered that the guards had stolen these,” Anna Kaiwa Mandizvidza said.
They urged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to intervene in the Sunningdale 1 situation as they said it is affecting students learning environment.
