NYAA TO EMBARK ON MASS ACTION

By Misheck Shambare

A newly formed youth group, The National Youth Action Alliance (NYAA) on Tuesday said they are going to engage in mass actions to try to force the government to address economic crisis currently facing the country.

NYAA was born on 7 February 2015 following a series of engagements and consultations among national stakeholders.

Speaking at a press briefing NYAA Chairperson Gilbert Mutubuki said they had brought together various powerful organisations in the country that are going to help mobilize Zimbabweans to act up upon the current Zanu PF regime and subsequently remove it from power.

“We cannot allow such injustice to continue to go and the worsening of the economy under our noses which is why we are calling for the demonstrations to carry on.

“People of Zimbabwe are fed up with the way this country is being run by Zanu PF and we urge people to stand up,” said Mutubuki.

Mutubuki added that the problems the country is facing at the moment are caused by the poorly managed government.

“We are embarking on various forms of mass action in line with our national constitution and with clear demands by the people of Zimbabwe, who desire an end to the failure abuse and poverty perpetuated by the Zanu PF regime,” he said.

In the idea of the mass action, NYAA is joined by some organisations and various political parties such as the MDC-T, Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn (MKD),ZAPU to mention but a few.

“We have partnered various organisations in our planned mass actions that include political parties’ such as MDC which makes our cause to likely to succeed,” said Mutubuki.

The founder of Occupy Africa Unity Square (OAUS) movement who is also the spokesperson of NYAA, Itai   Dzamara said the only solution for our problems is to mobilize people into mass action.

“I can mobilize more than 50000 people at once towards the cause of national development,” he said.

Responding on how prepared they are when Zanu PF uses state apparatus to fight and crush the mass actions, Gilbert Mutubuki said they will not be deterred by police or soldiers.

Dzamara went on to tell the public about how they are going to react whenever their rights are violated by the regime of Mugabe.

A lot of youth in the country are demoralized in participating in political issues which was evidenced in their participation in July 2013 elections where only 30 percent of the youths voted.

Presenting his experiences on the making of the documentary a fortnight ago in the capital, the director of “Voices: Coversations with the youths” documentary Pastor Stanley Gwanzura said young people in the country are dispassionate about the political landscape currently prevailing in the country.

“Young people in the country are detached with the political economy because of they have lost confidence in the political system,” he said.
