People of Muzokomba village in Buhera say they are now living in fear of the brutality, physical and sexual assault by the police stationed at Muzokomba Police Station.Villagers say instead of being protected by the police, they are now terrorizing them.
A villager who declined to be named for fear of victimization raised a concern on the police behavior that has caused many people in the community to live in fear.
“Most of the police officers at Muzokomba Police Station are now a threat to our security. They are physically assaulting villagers, beating them. Others are sexually harassing people and falling on love with young girls in secondary school, sexually violating underage girls,” said the villager.
“Last month one police officer, Muza started assaulting people at Muzokomba business center beating a business owner, named Gasseler apparently he cannot walk properly due to the injuries he sustained despite seeking medical attention,” added the villager.
Another named police officer, Adias Mazhambe allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife throwing her out of the house during the night. She was helped by a neighbor who took her to hospital.
Villagers are calling on the government to protect them against brutality from these officers.
“As a villager in Muzokomba, we are now living fear of the terror being perpetrated by the police. Instead of giving us security they are terrorizing us. Sometimes they borrow money or groceries from the stores and they refuse to give it back. People are being arrested and charged for criminals that do not exist for the police to exercise their powers and authority which is not fair,” said a villager.
