Mliswa cries foul

Staff reporter

Temba Mliswa today gave an update on the impending Norton by – election and raised a number of what he called electoral malpractices which have not been addressed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

Mliswa said that voter registration is in shambles and the commission has not done enough to address the issue. He said ZEC said they are still in the process of carrying out a countrywide voter registration exercise and the pilot voter registration have been conducted only in constituencies where there has been by elections.

He said that the issue of polling stations remains a sticking point after some polling stations were moved without consultation. Mliswa said for the purposes of the impending by-election they must revert to the polling stations that were used in the 2013 elections.

Mliswa also said that violence was occurring in the run up to the elections and ZEC has not yet appointed a police special liaison committee as required by the rules.

The Norton constituency fell vacant after for cabinet minister Christopher Mutsvangwa was expelled from the ruling ZANU PF. The by-election is due in 14 days time.
