Mliswa appeals to government to stop violence in Hurungwe West

Staff reporter

Temba Mliswa profusely apologised for the role he may have played in perpetrating violence against the White community at the height of farm invasions a decade ago. He urged ZANU PF party activists and the government to stop violence against his workers and he will surrender the farm in the next 24 hours.

The former ZANU PF legislator claims that violence on his farm is part of a ZANU PF terror campaign to win the Hurungwe West seat in the by-election on the 10th of June this year. He accused Minister of Local government Ignatius Chombo and Harare Businessman Phillip Chiyangwa as the master minds of the violence being perpetrated against his supporters.

Aleck Mangizi, a Headman in Hurungwe gave an account of how he was abducted by ZANU PF supporters and beaten up by Phillip Chiyangwa. Mliswa went on to challenge the police to investigate the matter since a victim had come out in the open about the ordeal.

Efforts to get a comment from Mr Phillip Chiyangwa and Minister Chombo were unsuccessful as their mobile phones were unreachable.

Tensions have been high in the Hurungwe West constituency since Mliswa was booted out of parliament and a by-election was announced. The defiant Mliswa maintains that he will win back the constituency despite the violence against his supporters
