The Movement for Democratic Change splinter group which calls itself the MDC Renewal will soon unveil its new name at the party’s National Convention.
Speaking at a press conference organized by this party the Spokesperson Jacob Mafume said all was set for the party’s national convention which will among other things change the party symbol, colour and unveil a new name.
‘Preparations are at an advanced stage for our National Convention ad we will be adopting the name Progressive Democratic Party or the People’s Democratic Party depending on what our delegates will propose’ said Mafume.
Mafume further confirmed that Tendai Biti had been nominated for the party Presidency unanimously based on his previous record as the Finance Minister and his links with international think tank organisation.
Asked on how their political party would resuscitate the economy Mafume maintained that the party was still advocating for a National Transitional Authourity which consists of technocrats to find a solution for the economy.
‘There is need for a national transitional Authority since ZANU PF won’t find solutions for this economy. They are like a grasshopper that has landed on a field which lives nothing expect the ground.’ he said.
Among other issues that were raised Mafume said that there was need for a coalition, social movement and broad alliances and electoral reforms in order to restore legitimacy for the betterment.
