MDC ALLIANCE ENDORSES CHAMISA

By Yvonne Manjengwa

2 March 2018, The MDC Alliance principals have unanimously elected Advocate Nelson Chamisa the presidential candidate for the upcoming 2018 elections.

Speaking at a press conference held today in the Capital, MDC Alliance spokesperson Prof Welshman Ncube said it is their responsibility as the Alliance to ensure that Chamisa is elected as the next president of Zimbabwe so that they can begin the process of rebuilding Zimbabwe.

“We believe that he has the credentials young as he might be. He has the experience .He has the experience .Don’t be fooled by his age, a seasoned politician .He has been with the people practically all of his adult life,”said Ncube.

Advocate Chamisa has been elected as the MDC Alliance president two weeks after the death of Morgan Tsvangirai.

Advocate Chamisa formally accepted and thanked his fellow partners and principals in the Alliance for endorsing his candidature.

“It’s coming at a time when I’m expected to fill in the shoes of a giant, an icon Comrade Morgan Tsvangirai. I’m being asked to carry over that legacy. I won’t be able to fill in the shoes but together we can rebuild our Zimbabwe, ”said Chamisa.

“We are a young country and it requires a young leader, we are a modern country and it requires modern approaches to our politics and our pledge is to give new politics. Our pledge is to give ZANU PF a very decent treatment in this election and making sure that we accompany them to resting because they deserve that” added Chamisa.

Professor Ncube highlighted that the Alliance will be holding rallies in the coming weeks in these following places Chinhoyi, Cross Dete, Plumtree, Gweru, and Kwekwe amongst others.

Tendai Biti noted that the upcoming elections are going to be critical for Zimbabweans and the country as well.

“This is our first election in 20 years that the name Robert Mugabe will not be on the ballot paper and regrettably it is the first election in which the founder of our democracy Morgan Tsvangirai will also not be on the ballot paper. But we believe that in Nelson Chamisa we will be able to complete what we started many years ago,”said Biti.
