LILONGWE, MALAWI – A Malawi Defense Force aircraft carrying Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others has lost contact with radar and failed to land at Mzuzu International Airport as scheduled, prompting a search and rescue operation.
According to officials, the plane went off radar at approximately 10:02 hours local time, and despite efforts by aviation authorities, no contact has been established with the aircraft since.
In response to the incident, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has canceled his scheduled trip to the Bahamas and ordered an immediate search and rescue operation, deploying national and regional agencies to locate the missing plane.
The public is assured that updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The cause of the disappearance is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway.
