Addressing Journalists today in Harare, ZNOART National Chairperson, Shepherd Chikomba said local authorities continue citing the lack of funding as the cause of poor service delivery yet the government says local authorities are receiving the respective allocations in foreign currency.
“The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development is on record saying that local authorities are receiving allocations of foreign currency for water treatment chemicals but local authorities continue to cite the lack of chemicals as their reason for failing to provide residents with water” he said
He also added that local authorities are failing to provide running water as they extravagantly use the money meant for borehole drilling holding endless workshops in expensive hotels.
ZNOART also stated that councils are corruptly selling stands at exorbitant prices without taking cognizance of the impact of their actions on the well-being of residents hence unscrupulously authorizing land barons to parcel out land before regularization.
Speaking about the corrupt parcelling out of land, he questioned why the identified land barons have been let scot-free, and requested the Auditor General to look into the matter and apprehend the perpetrators before they start naming and shaming them.
