Fighting teachers in court

By Takunda Mandura

Precious Nyemba, a teacher at David Livingstone Primary in Harare, has taken her workmate Sandra Hunyenye to court over allegations of assault .The two grade 5 teachers who have been working together at the school for the past nine years, turned the school into wrestling ring as they first exchanged words before ending up the assaults into physical fight.

Nyemba told the court that on 26 January 2016 her workmate Hunyenye assaulted her over the transferring of two school children into her class.

“( akati haadi vana madofo )She said she does not want dull children , she insulted me calling me hure (prostitute) and I also replied her newe (and you too), ” the complainant told the court (Nyemba)

“Hunyenye later followed me to my class and insulted me with fist three times and later pulled  my braids while pushing  me against the wall and kicking me, removing my braids  all this happened in front of the children I teach and even my very own child” said Nyemba

According to the medical report produced by the complainant in the court Precious Nyemba had  visible swelling on the head,

Hunyenye’s lawyer defended  saying ” his client acted in self-defense as she was first assaulted.  She has also produced a medical report, which is indicating that she has a fractured tooth.

Nyemba revealed to the court that the two have been workmates but they were  not close, due to a misunderstanding over cellphone which Nyemba had lost

Hunyenye’s lawyer also reviewed his client had once complained to Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education offices over the behavior of Nyemba when she is on school trips .

Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo  postponed the matter to 22 March 2016
