Leadership Squabbles at ‘Watchdog’ Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition.
By Prince Njagu
At a press conference convened at the Media Centre in Harare, Dewa Mavhinga, chairperson of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CZC) Board revealed that his organisation is currently embroiled in serious leadership squabbles.
Accusing some members of his organisation of intransigence, Mavhinga said that he was not going to let CZC be dragged into shame by leaders who wanted to serve their personal interests and neglected organizational responsibilities.
CZC comprises of 350 Zimbabwean non-governmental organizations that joined efforts so as to collective response to the multi-faceted crisis within the country but the organization is the now under leadership crisis.
Leadership disputes within Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition escalated after the Board indicated that they would not be renewing the contract of current Director Mcdonald Lewanika when his contract expires in December this year. The board accused Lewanika of incompetence and negligence of duty.
“Three out of the ten board members disagreed with the discussion not to renew Mr Lewanika’s contract when it expires in December”, said Mavhinga
He added that the CZC Board was not going to renew Lewanika’s contract when it expires on December 31 2014 citing issues of negligence of duty which resulted in the organization losing close to USD$ 23 000 in lawsuit to Zimbabwe Revenue Authority for tax evasions in 2013.
