Community members to sue Metallon Gold

Top mining company Metallon gGold is at the centre of a shooting controversy that occurred in Penhalonga last month.

Artisanl miners were shot by company security guards over gold fields that the company claim belong to them.

Jacob Majume, a legal practitioner representing  Violet Munorwei(20)and David Madzikatira (22)who are the victims of the recent shootings at Penhalonga told journalists that his clients would be suing the company over the shootings.

Violet Munorwei  lost her husband Tafadzwa Lewani (23) who was an artisanal miner in Penhalonga after he was shot twice by the Metallon security guards

The 5 security guards were released on $100 bail each.

David Madzikatira survived death by a whisker after he was shot in the stomach.

Despite government promulgating policy that allow artisanal miners to operate , these miners continue to be harassed by both corporate companies and law enforcement.

Activist Farai Maguwu said that there had been an increase in the killing of community members by mining companies but no arrests have been made so far.
