City of Harare Launches E-Musika Market Technology to Enhance Revenue Collection

The system is expected to benefit vendors by providing convenience, transparency, and efficiency, while also mitigating fraud and corruption.

The City of Harare has introduced the E-Musika market technology, a digital licensing, registration, and payment system aimed at enhancing revenue collection and market operations.

According to Boniface Maburutse, Councillor for Mbare Ward 4, the new system will provide a seamless connection between Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the town clerk for revenue collection.

“We are willing to provide well-trained cashiers and operators to collect revenue to be recorded in the database of Harare City Council,” he said.

The system is expected to benefit vendors by providing convenience, transparency, and efficiency, while also mitigating fraud and corruption. Morelight Tafireyi, a Mbare vendor, welcomed the new technology, saying:

“This new e-Musika technology for revenue collection can become a game-changer. It’s about time we embrace innovative solutions that make our lives easier and eliminate corruption.”

Director of Housing and Community SMEs, Dr. Adddmore Nhekairo, emphasized the system’s pivotal role in mitigating high-risk fraud within the market.

“This new technology displays checks and balance on how many operators, how many traders, how much do they pay, and how much can we improve the infrastructure and revenue markets,” he said.

Head of Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr. Collen Tongowona, said the introduction of the e-Musika market technology represents a significant stride towards modernizing revenue collection and market operations in Zimbabwe.

“Corruption is avoidable while using this mobile technology will secure every detail transaction made streamlining revenue collection and implementing comprehensive data capture for daily transactions,” he said.

The e-Musika technology is part of the government’s efforts to modernize and streamline administrative processes, aligning with the Vision 2030 policies. With plans to expand this initiative to new markets across the country, the integration of e-Musika technology stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for SMEs.
