Dubai based Zimbabwean business woman Edith Chibhamu has announced her new political outfit christened the Zimbabwe Democratic and Economic Freedom Party (ZDEFP), to contest the Zimbabwean 2023 presidential elections.
The party was formed last year and is still in the process to be formally registered by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
ZDEFP president Chibhamu said her party is geared to change the political dynamics in Zimbabwe pointing that the nation has been run by a patriarchal society for a longer period and it’s now time for women to take the drivers in steering national discourse.
“We have since identified structures for the party, now awaiting making it a legal entity and registering with ZEC in as far as the provisions of the laws of Zimbabwe are concerned” Chibhamu said
She added that her party will create an enabling environment through infrastructure development, a professional and streamlined public service, good education and vocational training relevant to global trends and technological advancement.
“We want to create a Zimbabwe where good health and well-being is the norm, and where access to quality health care and relevant social services are readily available to all the Zimbabweans.
“Our government will improve management and accountability in government hospitals and clinics by having medical business specialists review systems.
“Our government will put women at the heart of government and programmes, as our mothers and sisters. We will also introduce an Equal Pay Policies in sports and all jobs that indicate inequality, for single mothers the government will create a database for all, and will allow those women to have first preference in the jobs that maybe available in government at the same time encouraging the private sector to work hand in hand with government to ensure that they also join in to alleviate poverty and help these women raise their families.
ZDEFP, Chibhamu highlighted that the 2023 election is key and will shape the country for a generation as it is the only opportunity to transform the nation, so that it works not just for the elite, but for the majority.
“We want to bring about a new generation of politicking that speaks to our efforts to convince the electorate to embrace our proposals towards unlocking a ‘Zimbabwe for all’.
“It’s time we enjoy genuine change and renewal in our country that is built on the pillars of integrity, justice, competence, liberation, strength, resistance, honor and respect. Let’s choose to heal and unite, transform and rebuild” she said
