MDC Must Not Demonstrate: Mliswa

Norton House of Assembly representative Hon. Temba Mliswa

Member of Parliament and Independent candidate for Norton constituency in the House of Assembly Honourable Temba Mliswa has castigated double standards of the current crop of politicians and said Zimbabwe was in a new era of politics.

While addressing the media on the current election environment at Media Centre in Harare today, Mliswa said the demonstrations by the MDC Alliance were rushed and were stalling progress.

“Our people perish from lack of knowledge. The more we read and understand the constitution and its provisions, the more we become aware of process and procedure, I have nothing against Nelson Chamisa but one must counter by giving a message to the courts not by rushing to demonstrate. People have suffered too long and prolonging the process will only delay stability,” said Mliswa.

Mliswa also said for him the race was still on and he was ready for elections.

“A week is a long time in politics. I look forward to this time next week beginning a new historic era for the country,” he added.

Mliswa also made reference to the presence of the Elders, Southern African Development Community and the European Union Observer missions as a demonstration of the international community’s willingness to oversee the ushering in of a new leadership for the country.

Mliswa highlighted that elections were for the development of the nation and not an avenue for politicians to engage in corruption and self-aggrandizement.

“Elections are not about politicians to be in positions of self-enrichment but are for them to be able to serve the people and improve their lives through policy implementation and development.  This is what is critical. The truth is that your first six months will determine the rest of you term in office,” he said.
