Econet Wireless Zimbabwe  has offered its customers yet another innovative service that is set to give convenience to motorists and freight vehicle operators.

Barely a fortnight after the launch of the Eco-school product set to give university students access to quality educational material on the internet, Econet on Wednesday launched the mobile tracking application  Connected Car.

Chief operating officer for Econet Connected Car, Dorothy Zimuto said their product will be connected to most cars in the country within some few months.

“We have invested in the necessary infrastructure to deliver this service efficiently with over 100 installers specifically trained for the Econet Connected Car, ready to offer unparalleled installation turnaround time,” Zimuto said.

With the product the car will communicate with various infrastructure facilities like opening the gate when the motorist arrives at the house or office.  A 24 hour vehicle tracking service will also be offered to locate the position of fleet drivers and vehicles.

Zimuto added that the safety of motorists will be enhanced through checking issues like over-speeding via the installation of multiple driver identification gadgets on vehicles. A “point of interest” installation would also give convenience to motorists by showing them the location of the nearest ablution facilities, service station or bank among other necessary convenient places for motorists.

She said personal vehicle management will be enhanced through the installation of a special gadget called “on board diagnostic port” which checks the health of the vehicle on whether or not it is due for service or a tire or oil needs replacement.

Corporates will be charged a once off installation fee of $100 per car and only $20 monthly service fee, a consumer connect package will cost $50 per car and $15 monthly service fee while a personal connect package will cost $199 installation fee and $20 to maintain it per month.

Econet chief executive officer Douglas Mboweni said the company is committed to offering creativity and innovative solutions that would empower the generality of Zimbabweans and create wealth for individuals.
