Buhera South, Zimbabwe – In a bid to combat climate change, villagers in Buhera South have embraced information hubs set up by the Media Centre, a civil society organization. The initiative aims to empower communities with knowledge on climate change mitigation strategies.

Trymore Chatikobo, a beneficiary of the training, has successfully ventured into horticulture farming, producing a variety of vegetables for the community. Despite starting with limited resources, Chatikobo’s innovative approach has yielded impressive results.

“I began with a 375 Watt solar pump, 32mm submersible pump, and a 200m hose pipe. I now produce millet, sorghum, roundnuts, groundnuts, and rapoko, using climate-friendly techniques like Pfumvudza, organic farming, and mixed cropping,” Chatikobo explained.

Chatikobo has also embarked on a livestock rearing project

The training received from Media Centre has enabled Chatikobo to turn agriculture into a thriving business, benefiting both his household and the community.

The information hubs have capacitated citizens with knowledge on climate change, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and innovation in the face of climate change.
