MDC Alliance spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere has castigated weak investigations being conducted by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) in the alleged Covidgate scandal roping in top health officials and son to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Addressing the media at a press conference at the Media Centre in Harare, Mahere said her party will not be distracted from uprooting and bringing to book those responsible for the root cause of the country’s economic woes.

“We refuse to accept any distraction that is not in the public interest because right now corruption is killing us. The perpetrators or the architect of this corruption must be brought to book.”
Mahere questioned the work of ZACC stating that the top officials involved in corruption are not being held to accountable.

She also added that MDC A is going to push so that there are consequences to those who do not comply with the requirements to timelessly report on account to parliament on government spending.

“We take the fight against corruption extremely seriously. We will not be deterred from fighting it from all fronts, including in parliament, through peaceful protests and social media,” said Mahere.

Three top NatPharm bosses on Wednesday appeared before Harare magistrate facing charges of approving DRAX International LLC to supply and deliver medicines and surgical sundries to the government without following procurement procedures.

The three are; Florah Nancy Sifeku, 67, managing director; Charles Mwaramba, 78, operations manager; and Rolland Mlalazi, 55, finance manager.

They jointly face criminal abuse of office charges.
