A woman from Marange in Manicaland has been arrested for dumping her newly born baby into a pit latrine.
Moleen Mushandi (28) appeared in court before magistrate Nyasha Kuture last week charged with baby dumping and pleaded guilty.
Mushandi will be back in court tomorrow for sentencing.
Prosecutors said on December 10, at around 4am and at Matowe homestead, Machangwirwa village in Marange, the woman dumped her newly born baby in a pit latrine.
Mushandi’s neighbour Hardlife Mutengo visited the toilet intending to relieve himself the same morning and heard the baby crying.
Mutengo noticed the baby in the pit and he retrieved Mushandi’s child with the help of a neighbour.
When she was quizzed, the woman confessed that it was her baby, leading to her arrest.
